The change in season is a perfect time to refresh the very first space guests see when they come to your home, which is your front door or entryway. The entrance to your home sets the tone and gives visitors their first impression. I’m sharing 6 simple tips and help on what to shop for to give your front porch all the Fall feels!
Paint is an affordable solution that can bring the most dramatic change. Could your front door use a fresh coat of paint? Check out my Fall color favorites:
Pair your standard “welcome” mat with a larger outdoor rug to serve as an anchor for the space and décor. It will help bring the space together when the objects are either touching or very close to the larger rug.
A huge improvement to front porch décor happens when objects are to scale to the door. Most planters sit low, leaving a lot of unused space between the ground and your eye level. Try using large corn stalks or hay-bails from your local Farmers Market to help add height to your décor. Stacking pumpkins and using different planter heights can also help tier the look.
I love the look of a warm scarf underneath an existing wreath. Not only does this bring the colors together from your plants and pumpkins but it adds length and closes the gap between your ground décor.
MIX IT UP
I like to mix smaller plants in with the “focal point plants.” If you choose to decorate with mums on either side of the door, try using a couple cabbage plants or herbs to add variety. Mix in a few muted color pumpkins to bring in the color palette from the scarf.
Dim lighting always brings a sense of comfort. Using lanterns with battery operated candles or rope lighting can help achieve this look. If your outdoor sconces are dated try changing them out for a more cohesive + modern look.
